My stay at Hotel Indigo Antwerp City Centre

Two weeks ago I went on a lovely city trip to Antwerp. It was the first trip in months, so I was super excited to go out and explore again. As Antwerp is only 45 minutes from my hometown Ghent, I have made a lot of day trips to the city over the years. What I love about Antwerp is the fact that there is always something new to discover. And honestly, the shopping is so much better than anywhere else in Belgium. So, after all these months stuck at home, I needed a little staycation.  During our trip we stayed at Hotel Indigo Antwerp City Centre, a funky boutique hotel with a lot of personality and character.

Grote Markt Antwerpen

Location

Hotel Indigo Antwerp City Centre is located across Antwerp’s central railway station. Besides the proximity of the train station, you can find the Antwerp Zoo, Chocolate Nation, Chinatown and the Diamond District at the hotel’s doorstep. The Meir shopping district and historical center are only a few minutes walking distance away, making this hotel perfect for both leisure and business travellers.

Check-in

Hotel Indigo is part of the Intercontinental Hotel Group. The Indigo brand is known for bringing an urban and cosmopolitan vibe to its hotels. You can find a Hotel Indigo in a lot of major cities (NYC, New Orleans, London, Brussels, Rome …). In every city the brand tries to connect the neighborhood into the hotel’s interior and ambiance. And that’s something that you’ll feel immediately when arriving at the hotel. The members of the team are super friendly and always eager to help. The beautiful design and interior of the hotel give you an instant wauw feeling. You will also spot a lot of plants and animal-themed decorations, this in reference to the nearby Antwerp Zoo.

Rooms

The guest rooms are the kind that make your dreams come true: designed in oak and decorated with contemporary artworks in homage to great Flemish artists. There are three different kind of room types at Indigo Antwerp: Standard Room, Superior Room and a Junior Suite. And they come in blue, pink and green! We stayed in a pink superior room and I absolutely loved it.

All rooms are equipped with a Nespresso coffee machine, flat screen TV, walk-in shower and luxurious MOOOI toiletries. Let me take a moment to praise the bed too, because it’s one of the best hotel beds I have ever slept in! We also had a lovely balcony with an amazing view upon Antwerp’s gorgeous train station. Talking ‘bout a room with a view right?!

Food & Beverage

Just like me Hotel Indigo believes that an amazing breakfast is key to a great stay. As the restaurants in Belgium are still closed due to Covid measures, the way that breakfast is served is a bit different. Depending on the occupancy of the hotel, breakfast is either brought to your room or you can go to the buffet to pick up your food at a certain time. Reception will notify you upon check-in, which option will apply during your stay. We had to pick up our breakfast from the elaborate buffet. Honestly you guys, we found everything our hearts desired; fresh fruit, yoghurt, different kinds of bread, croissants, chocolate breads, cereals, granola and cold cuts like cheese, ham, salmon or salami. We even had a glass of bubbly! Everything was packed separately and very much Covid-proof. After we picked up our tray we went back to our room and enjoyed our breakfast on our lovely private balcony in the sun. Such good times!

The hotel’s restaurant ‘QA’s Kitchen’ is still closed for outside guests. If you stay at the hotel, you can order lunch, drinks and dinner to the room. We were in the mood for some Indian food, so we ordered takeout instead.
