My stay at Mercure Oostende

In terms of travelling, 2020 is all about staycations. Luckily for us, Belgium has a lot of interesting places to discover. The Belgian Coast is for sure one of the most popular ones. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a few beach days now and then right?! Ever since I was little, Ostend has been my favorite of the Belgian coastal cities. Last weekend I enjoyed an amazing stay at Mercure Oostende. Let me tell you a little bit more about the hotel and its facilities.

Location

Mercure Oostende is located in the heart of Ostend. The Casino Kursaal is just down the street and the beach and main shopping streets are only five minutes walking distance away. The train station is also super close to the hotel. As you can see, getting around town is effortless when you stay at Hotel Mercure Oostende.

Check-in

Upon arrival the large mural with the map of Ostend in the lobby immediately caught my eye! It was a nice introduction to the modern design of Mercure Oostende. The check-in itself went smoothly and after we got the keys, we were eager to get to our room.

Rooms at Mercure Ostend

Mercure Oostende has a total of 95 rooms. Guests can choose between 6 different room types; Classic Cozy Double or Twin Room, Standard Double or Twin Room, Standard Family Room, Superior Double Room with City View, Superior Twin Room with City View and a Privilege Room with Balcony. But whether you choose the Standard, Superior or Privilege, all rooms offer the same modern design and comfort.

All rooms are equipped with a refrigerator, safe, flat screen TV, telephone, coffee and tea making facilities and air conditioning. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available around the hotel. We had the pleasure of staying in a Superior Twin Room with City Views and we absolutely loved it. Sometimes modern designs can make a room feel a bit cold, but this was definitely not the case at Mercure Oostende. Our room was very cozy and comfortable.

The bathroom was compact, but offered enough space to put my stuff, so that was a big plus, as that isn’t always the case with hotel bathrooms. The ‘Rituals’ toiletries were a nice extra.

Food & Beverage

The bar and restaurant are located on the ground floor. Just like the rooms, the design is modern, but with a cozy feel. I cannot really comment on the menu, as we didn’t make use of these facilities.

What I can do tell you, is that breakfast is amazing! It’s served continental style, so there is definitely something to everyone’s liking. There’s a lovely selection of bread rolls, cereals, pancakes, different kinds of cheese and ham. I especially enjoyed my Boursin and Smoked Salmon toast. Oh and hey, if you prefer English breakfast, there’s beans and bacon, so that is a possibility too. Mornings without coffee aren’t exactly my thing, but I was pleasantly surprised with the choice in tea; so many different flavors. Tea lovers are in for a treat! As is anyone else of course, with the yummy food.

I really feel like Mercure Oostende is the perfect base for a staycation in Ostend. All the best that Ostend has to offer is just a stone throw’s away and you get to enjoy it while staying in the comfort of a lovely hotel! @jilltjelescrauwaet and I really enjoyed our little getaway to Ostend!
